Many nations shall come and say,
“Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,
To the house of the God of Jacob;
He will teach us His ways,
And we shall walk in His paths.”
In going up to the mountain of the Lord, the people have determined to climb the ladder of divine ascent, to the house of the God of Jacob – i.e. the Kingdom of God. By so doing, we commit to the process of theosis – growing into the image of God in which we were created. Atop that ladder and from the heights of the Kingdom, we will be taught the ways of the Lord and have grace sufficient to walk in His paths.
Our goal should be to climb this ladder and go into the house of the Lord (cf. Ps. 122). And we should determine to stay there, where we will be able to walk worthy of the calling to which we have been called.
But first we must prepare for this journey. And that is our task for Advent: preparing to go up the mountain and to the house of the God of Jacob so we can see the Holy One and learn from Him.
The key to preparing for this journey is to simply acknowledge this as the journey and to acknowledge this journey as necessary.
So, are you making your way up the mountain? Are you even familiar with the ladder of divine ascent and how to climb up that mountain? Do you strive to live in the Kingdom of God now…on earth as it is in heaven?
As we prepare for the Coming One, may the Lord bless us with strength and courage climb the mountain that we might be first to see the Advent of the Son!
