Zombie Fela Kuti

Zombie Oh, Zombie…

Zombie no go go, unless you tell am to go

Zombie no go stop, unless you tell am to stop

Zombie no go turn, unless you tell am to turn

Zombie no go think, unless you tell am to think

The late great composer and musician, Fela Kuti, released this song in 1976. It says a great deal about the problems we’re seeing in our Society.

I started thinking about it as I have been reading Episcopal Theologian, William Stringfellow. In An Ethic For Christians and Other Aliens in a Strange Land, Stringfellow says:

“In domestic society…death has been so pervasive that few persons have failed to see death’s vitality in America, in the compounding neglect of elementary human needs in shelter and education and work and health and in so much more. In the relentless assaults upon truth and reason and comprehension and conscience…by the virtual abolition of credibility as a premise and discipline of government: citizens are left anxious and bewildered and numbed – dehumanized, or morally in a condition of death.”

Read that again…

Sound familiar? Does it resonate?

Our Society leaves humanity in a condition of death. And our culture’s affinity with Zombies and the Walking Dead should help us understand…

Many of us are walking around, seemingly alive but truly dead.

We no go think unless the system tell us to think…

We no go turn unless Babylon tell us to turn…

Like true zombies, we blindly march in death, to our death, in order to uphold the reign of death.

Our culture idolizes death

We want immigrants & refugees to stay out and die…

We want to kill children before they’re even born…

We want to inject and electrify people until they’re lifeless…

We want to drop bombs indiscriminately upon soldier and civilian…men, women and children…

We’ll tank entire economies and cause millions to suffer so we can get out way…

We deny people healthcare…

We deny them quality education…

We’ll poison their water in the name of cost savings…

We are a people who pretend to uphold Life as the chief and inalieanble right, while alienating everyone from Life…

We glorify death…

But there’s nothing new under the sun. Our Society is not the first to worship death. Afterall that is why Christ came in the flesh…right?

To set at liberty the captives…those held in bondage to sin and death. And by His Death, He destroyed death…raising us from death into Life.

Those of you who are still dead won’t see what I’m talking about. If you haven’t stopped reading by now, you’ll stop by the end of this sentence…

You’ll tell yourself (and others) that I’m filled with hate…that I stir up discord.

Yet, those of you who are alive in Him will see exactly what I’m pointing out and wonder what we can do…what we must do. Because you know there must be a better way…

Right?

If so…then click here & let’s talk about that better way.
